M3U link or Xtream Codes login: which should you use?
17 October 2026, 1 min read
Your trial login comes in two forms: an M3U link and an Xtream Codes login. Both give you the same channels. The difference is how your app gets them.
M3U link
An M3U link is a single web address that points to a playlist, a list of channels with their stream addresses. Almost every player can open one, including VLC and many smart TV apps.
- Good for: apps that only accept a playlist, and quick testing.
- Downside: the app downloads one long list, so films, series and the TV guide may be less organised.
Xtream Codes login
An Xtream Codes login has three parts: a server address, a username and a password. The app talks to the server directly and asks for exactly what it needs.
- Good for: apps like TiviMate and IPTV Smarters, which use it to sort live TV, films and series into separate sections.
- Usually better for: the TV guide, catch-up where it's available, and faster loading of large channel lists.
Which should you choose?
If your app offers an Xtream Codes option, use it. Choose the M3U link when your app only accepts a playlist address. You can switch at any time, because both use the same trial.

Common questions
What is an M3U link?
A web address that points to a playlist of channels and their stream addresses. Most IPTV players and VLC can open it.
What is an Xtream Codes login?
A server address, username and password. IPTV apps use it to load live TV, films, series and the TV guide in separate sections.
Is Xtream Codes better than M3U?
In apps that support it, usually yes: the TV guide and categories are tidier and large lists load faster. Both give you the same channels.
